Gloriosa superba
Origin: East Africa & Asia
Rwanda's most iconic wildflower. A climbing lily with extraordinary reflexed petals in flame red and gold — like a flower caught mid-explosion. Grows from a tuber and scrambles up supports using tendril-tipped leaves. One of the most spectacular plants in East Africa. Native to Rwanda and East Africa. Grows vigorously in Kigali. Tubers are highly toxic — handle with gloves. Plant where it can climb freely.
